Hurry up and wait! An average day for the crew of BR 80 019 stationed at Bhf Gößnitz in Sachsen. Having picked up three loaded box cars at the Apollowerk siding, they now sit at track 18 and wait for a heavy freight train bound for Hof to clear, before they start working their way towards track 22, where a short freight is being set up for the afternoon haul to Glauchau.
Shunting at Gößnitz is not easy because the platforms are in "Insellage" - island position, i.e. in the middle - which means crossing the busy mainline between Leipzig and Hof to get from tracks 9 - 14 servicing the Apollowerk and the Eastern freight platform of Güterbahnhof Gößnitz to tracks 21 - 28 which makes up the Rangierbahnhof.

Something new I am fiddling with. Thanks to my binders about German stations and depots, with a helping hand from Google Earth we can take a trip to Bundesbahndirektorat München - Ostallgäu district in Bavaria to be exact - in the early years of Deutsche Bundesbahn. This allows me to run a lovely mix of traction along with a plethora of rolling stock. The subject is a crossing station for two main lines, not yet under wire, with a shunting yard and its own Bahnbetriebswerk in the typical K.Bay.S.E. style i.e. side-by-side style enginehouses with a turntable which serves only to turn the engines around, not to spot them in a roundhouse. All controlled by semaphores, a waggon load of Gleissperrsignale and two Stellwerke. This is going to take a while to get presentable.
